Anti Ageing

Aging has been a fact of life since mankind. Humans go through different stages of life from being a child to youth to adulthood with youth being the best part of life from a health point of view. Good health, strong muscles, an efficient immune system, a sharp memory and a healthy brain are typical of ideal youth. The hormones work at their peak during the teenage years.

Anti-aging medicine aims to maintain or achieve this regardless of chronological age, that is, to remain healthy and biologically efficient.

The science magazines define aging as follows:

“The progressively failing ability of the body’s own internal and genetic forces to protect, maintain and repair itself to continue working efficiently.”

We are now living in the information age. Medical knowledge is growing at an incredible rate, doubling every three years. This doubling rate of information is decreasing. The world is changing and so is the way we view our health and well-being as we age.

It was believed that aging is an inherent, universal and progressive natural phenomenon. It’s harmful with no benefits except maybe wisdom. But now there is a paradigm shift in looking at the aging process based on well-documented evidence in medical and scientific literature. If we plot the health on the y-axis and the number of years on the x-axis, the life curve is like a distorted triangle with the apex at 25-30 years. Anti-aging helps make it square.

Many natural aging mechanisms often cause actual disease. From this we can conclude that fighting the aging process may lead to the improvement of an age-related disease.

All animals or plants eventually show signs of aging even if they are in a protected environment. When we look at Ayurveda which prescribes plants or their components and extracts to fight diseases, one must wonder why? Nature created these plant chemicals to help protect against disease or aging. Humans later adapted these chemicals for their own use to increase their chances of staying healthy.
